Caring Ministries

Caring Ministries:

Those who choose to follow Jesus do so with faith, but also through caring ministries. We reach out to our wider community and to those in need in far away places.

St. George’s participates in the hot meal program for people in need known as The Fishes and Loaves dinner, on the fifth Tuesday in the month.  This Program is coordinated by Nancy Simpson.

Through the work of our Mission Group (second Tuesday of the month at 1:30 p.m., meeting at Goderich Place). This group provides us with updates to their work through ‘Mission Moments’ on Sunday mornings and through ‘The Messenger’, our parish newsletter.

Both St. George’s and Christ Church, Port Albert members participate in the Hats and Mats ministries in our area. Tamara Crocker coordinates the effort at St. George’s, our seniors at Goderich Place weave mats in their lounge area, Penny Murray leads Christ Church’s Wednesday night Hats and Mats work in Port Albert, and Judy Norman hosts the effort at Huron Haven. The mats are made of plastic milk bags creating a waterproof article for homeless people’s use. The mats are distributed wherever there is need in Ontario.

We communicate and give to the work of the Anglican Church of Canada’s Development and Relief organization called The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF). We give thanks for the men and women of PWRDF who ensure that Anglicans across Canada have a meaningful and cost-effective way of making a difference in the world. The churches, for example, were on the scene in Fort McMurray, Alberta in 2016 with immediate aid!

St. George’s children love to go to Huron Church Camp on Lake Huron near Bayfield. Not all families have the resources to fund the registration fees, but our Church Camp Bursary Program ensures that no one has to stay home just because of money!

We care about our seniors: our clergy and volunteers lead worship at Maitland Manor (first Thursday of each month at 10 a.m.), Goderich Place (first Thursday of the month at 2 p.m.), and Harbour Hills (third Sunday of the month at 2 p.m.)
